“It’s Christmas time!
Well, not quite but it’ll be here soon. For the last several years BP has collectively provided shoe box gifts for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse ministries. This year, if you and your family or friend would like to pack shoe box gifts, you may do so on your own. There will be pick up locations around Chesterfield that will be available the week of November 12-19. There will not be any collection or drop offs done through our church this year.
However, we would like to join our hearts and hands with a new to us project to provide Christmas gifts for children a little closer to home. Our SBCV state association will again be providing Christmas Backpacks for Children in Appalachia. Why Appalachia? 1.4 million children in Appalachia live in poverty. 1 out of 4 children go to bed hungry every night. Many of these children lack the basic necessities of life.
The backpacks are filled in a very similar fashion to the shoe boxes. Toys, hygiene items, watches, a few school supplies, jewelry, flashlights, socks, t-shirts candy (still no chocolate), coloring books but also age-appropriate Christian books and pop-top cans of food. There is no shipping fee that needs to be included.
The backpacks will be collected at BP from September 16-30 at the missions table. The age ranges are boys or girls 4-7 years, 8-10 years and 11-15 years old.
Get started now while backpacks and school supplies are on sale! Please pack a backpack for a child in Appalachia as you would for your own child or grandchild.
